State Supreme Court hears debate about tobacco money
COLUMBUS — The state didn’t have the right to take about $230 million set aside for tobacco prevention and use it for other purposes because the money was in a protected fund, a lawyer for an anti-smoking group told the Ohio Supreme Court on Tuesday.

A $168,514 award to the family of a deceased Salem smoker still stands, but the Oregon Supreme Court today declined to reinstate a $100 million punitive damage award against cigarette maker Philip Morris. The family will have to go back to court for a new trial to pursue punitive damages.
