Shimla, Jul 10 : This picturesque capital town was set to be declared smoke free by August 15, the Independence Day, to become the second smoke free city in North India after the City Beautiful, Chandigarh.

N.Y. tax hike brings smokers across border
Thursday July 8, 2010 HOOSICK, N.Y. — New York’s July 1 tax increase on cigarettes added $1.60 to the cost of a pack, bringing the average cost statewide to $8.92 a pack, according to the New York State Division of Budget, in an attempt to raise revenue and decrease the state’s percentage of smokers.

People with high levels of vitamin B6 and methionine less likiely to develop lung cancer
People with higher blood levels of vitamin B6 and the amino acid methionine appear to have a lower risk of lung cancer, a French study has found. But more research is needed to understand if higher levels of the nutrients directly protect against the disease.

On Thursday, July 1, the Hawaii state tax on cigarettes will increase 40 cents from $2.60 to $3.00 per pack under Act 59, of the Session Laws of Hawaii.
